Whimsical Charm at the Palihouse Santa Monica

A quiet, palm tree lined street with a soft ocean breeze in Santa Monica’s ‘North of Wilshire’ residential neighborhood sets the stage for its newest hotel addition, The Palihouse. With much success of the hip West Hollywood location, the plan to transform what was once the Embassy Hotel Apartments into an oceanside location seems to be a perfect fit.

Enter: Palihouse Santa Monica.

This charming Spanish style stone building, built in 1927, feels more like a home away from home than a hotel. Outside a beautifully manicured garden, complete with a wishing well and bocce ball set, leads you to the entrance of this stylish yet quaint boutique hotel.

Inside the lobby and lounge area, part rustic lodge part mid century charm, you’re greeted by a very educated, friendly and helpful staff that take great pride in being part of the Pali experience. The current coffee bar offers a creative breakfast and snack menu, which we recommend enjoying in the tranquil courtyard.

Although there are plans to add a bar in the near future, for now an espresso is the strongest drink you can order. The upside is an even more peaceful vibe while staying at the Palihouse and a good reason to head a few blocks south and explore Santa Monica’s array of wining and dining establishments.

Take advantage of the bike rentals available and experience one of the prettiest rides on the West Coast on the beach path.

After taking in some of Southern California’s best sunshine, retreating to your suite at the Palihouse is a relaxing reward. Rooms are decorated to showcase trends from almost every decade. The eclectic mix of rustic-vintage design feels as if it were dreamt up by stylish director, Wes Anderson. In addition to the spacious classic studio suites, the grand studios feature a full kitchen and separate vanity area, making it an ideal extended stay. One and two-bedroom residences are also available, as well as two incredible Penthouse suites, located on the 4th floor.

If you’re seeking relaxed sophistication on your next visit to Los Angeles, a stay at the Palihouse Santa Monica might just be your perfect fit. Check out our Palihouse Pintrest board for more great photos.
